Matting of artworks on paper
Artworks on paper are now available for purchase through my website (here) and I’ve been matting them up so they are ready for sending to their new homes.
The paintings have been mounted with archival tape
in neutral coloured, matboards which are are buffered, acid-free with a white core. The same matboard has been used to make a hinged folder which encases the artwork providing extra protection in both framing and transport.
The folder isn’t glued down, which means you will be able to also see the reverse of the work, where I have recorded the my name and the title of the artwork.
While I recommend professional picture framing, I realise that doesn’t suit every budget. For your convenience I have cut the mats to fit widely available ready-made frames; just pop the whole matted and backed unit into the clean frame.
The top mat is for presentation, but also does an important job allowing air between the artwork and the glass. The backing mat protects the painting support (paper) from damage due to acid migration - which is the reason professional picture framers use acid free backing boards, not the kind you find in many off-the-shelf frames.
When you hang any artwork, it is best to avoid strong light and extremes of temperature and humidity.
I use only professional artist quality materials, but any artwork can become vulnerable in adverse conditions.
The mounted artwork is then packed in an archival “Krystal Seal” bag.
