en plein air
Sugarloaf

This morning was a sunny winter morning so a friend and I set out to sketch en plein air. We headed out of town and set up beside a country road with a rural view.
Choosing to work in oils today, my painting set up is comprised of a travel easel, canvas board, palette (an old painting board), paints, brushes, one palette knife and two small glass jars for solvent and medium. Paints today were a cool yellow, alizarin crimson, ultramarine, and zinc white. Extra items are a pair of nitrile gloves, hand wipes and a rag, a hat and a rubbish bag, handy to pick up people’s rubbish that was littering the area.
An old frame works well to transport the wet painting home.
